Cosmelan Pigmentation Peel

What is a Cosmelan Peel?

The cosmelan peel helps target and treat hyperpigmentation and melasma, which is a condition that is common for many people. This can often be caused by hormones, medication, sun damage or possibly trauma to the skin.

The combination in the peel impedes the formulation of abnormal skin pigments and breaks them down. It can be used to help with superficial hyperpigmentation and dull skin with uneven skin tone.

Will a Cosmelan Peel work for me?

This treatment works on most skin types. We recommend that you complete a course of 6 treatments, although when you book a consultation, our skin experts will advise you on the best course of action and create a tailored treatment plan.

How does the Cosmelan Peel work?

The cosmelan peels work to target the cells responsible for pigmentation; by targeting the melanin, it reduces and will lighten the treated area helping to even the skin tone and reduce the appearance of discolouration. In this treatment, a chemical peel is used on the targeted areas because it contains inhibitors that will have a depigmenting effect. It also renews the epidermis by increasing the thickness and lightening the skin with the solution in the peel.‍The Azelaic acid within the peel kills bacteria and promotes new skin cell production, whilst Kojic acid inhibits melanin production in the skin. The Cosmelan Peel also decreases the skin’s natural melanin production by inhibiting an enzyme (tyrosinase), providing an even and smooth complexion.

Why choose the Cosmelan depigmentation peel?

With the combination of solutions in the treatment, not only does the peel help treat pigmentation but also works to combat sun spots, melasma and other forms of hyperpigmentation.

Process

Treatment

The Cosmelan Peel is a powerful treatment that works in two stages; however, your skin must be cleansed and prepped before this. First, the peel is applied to your skin and left for several hours until completely dry. There is no discomfort, but ensuring you have no social plans during this period is advised. After this, the peel will be removed with water, and you can expect your skin to be a little irritated and red due to the active ingredients which have penetrated your skin during this time.

Healing

One day after the treatment, your skin will be red and plump. This is a sign that the Cosmelan Peel has stimulated the process of skin shedding and wound healing. During this time, the body sends blood to the area, flooding it with collagen, and red and white blood cells, which helps reduce pigmentation and improves overall skin tone. Seven days after the treatment, you can resume your daily activities; however, your skin may still appear red and experience peeling, as the full recovery process takes up to four weeks. Pigmentation will have begun to fade, and your skin’s overall texture will be improved due to increased collagen production and skin hydration. You must use Cosmelan 2 serum to prevent the formulation of new hyperpigmentation.

Aftercare

Four weeks after the treatment, you can expect to start seeing long-term changes in your skin's pigmentation, texture, tone and luminosity. It’s important to maintain a strict skincare routine to achieve optimal results, including using an SPF50 sunscreen and Cosmelan 2 serum daily. The Cosmelan treatment is an effective solution for treating pigmentation, but it’s important to understand that results vary depending on how severe the pigmentation was before treatment. In some cases, a maintenance program of 6-monthly treatments may be required. During the months after your treatment, we will be available to contact if you have any concerns.
